Its that time again. Time to help you make a delicious decision for what to make yourself after a long day of working hard...
How about a grilled cheese?
This isn't your ordinary grilled cheese, with white bread and Kraft orange slices. This grilled cheese has pears, red onion, and brie, all enveloped by 2 delicious slices of cinnamon swirl bread. Oh. Ya.
3 tablespoons salted butter
1 pear
1/3 red onion
6 pieces cinnamon swirl bread
6 ounces Double Cream Brie cheese
1 bag arugala (optional)
Get out a large skillet. You are going to cover the sandwich with a bowl, so you need to make sure the skillet is large enough. Lay out 3 slices of bread. Cut the brie into 1 ounce portions, and then each ounce into half ounces. Place 3 half slices down on each piece of bread.
Take the pear and cut 15 round slices, about 1/8 inch thick; depending on the size of your pear, you may have leftover pear... which is fine. I ate mine right then and there. Pears are delicious! Place 5 slices on top of the brie on each slice of bread.
Do the same with the red onion. Slice about 3-5 rounds per bread slice, depending on how much you like an onion flavor. Next, take that last 1/2 piece of Brie and add one on to the top of each sandwich, above the onions and the pear. I do this to make sure the top piece of bread has something to stick to, so when I am eating the sandwich, it actually is gooey, warm, and melty all over.
Turn the pan on medium heat. Place 1 tablespoon butter in the pan per sandwich. Once melted, take another slice of bread and place it on top of the sandwich. Next, place the bottom of the sandwich in the pan (the side attached to the most cheese).
Cover the sandwich with a bowl, large enough that it seals the sandwich all the way around. I do this to get the cheese to melt faster, but also to steam and heat the pears. You want them to be crispy, but not raw. About 5 minutes later, take the bowl off and flip the sandwich.
Once flipped, place the bowl back on top of the sandwich. Cook for another 3 minutes. Once the sandwich is done, melty, and browned on both sides, remove it from the pan. If you want to add arugula, this is the time. Place the sandwich cheesiest side down on a plate. Remove the top piece of bread, and add a handful of arugula. Place the top piece of bread back.
Either way you do it, cut the sandwich and enjoy!
Happy Hump day everyone :)
